Opened in late 2021, the Fernandez Barbershop in Sunnyside (43-15 Greenpoint Ave) is Orlando Fernandez and his brothers' third barbershop in Queens. The first location is opened in Woodside, followed by their second in Astoria. Choosing Sunnyside was easy for the brothers - it was where Orlando got his start as a barber in New York City on 47th Ave.
Orlando, whose mother is also a hairstylist, started pursuing his career as a barber in the Dominican Republic and continued his passion when he immigrated to the U.S. and settled down in Woodside, Queens in 2002. He tells us, "I love what I do, it's a family business. It's in my blood." He also emphasized that one of his favorite aspects about being a barber is the relationship that develops between him and the clients.
At the Sunnyside location, Orlando and fellow barbers Junior and Manuel work together to provide creative hairstyles for their customers, such as the skin fade, pictured below.
The barbershop is open from 9:30am to 7:30pm from Monday - Saturday and 10am - 4pm on Sundays.
