Hernando Ríos (October 22, 1975 – August 7, 2005) was a true American Hero. He bravely answered the call of duty and joined the New York National Guard after the war in Iraq began. He also served as a maintenance supervisor in the World Trade Center during the attacks of September 11, 2001. While on patrol in Iraq, his Humvee was attacked by insurgents using a roadside bomb that resulted in his death.
As of 2006, his family had lived on the street where he is being honored for over 33 years. Ríos' loved ones remember him for his joy and kindness, especially in his efforts to protect and defend the little guy.
