Dolores Rizzotto, who died in 2014 at the age of 70, was the the district manager of Queens Community Board 2 for 15 years. In that position she created a syringe exchange program to combat the hazard of loose needles in the streets of Sunnyside, Woodside and Long Island City.
She was also instrumental in bringing a veteran’s shelter to Borden Avenue. Rizzotto started many toy drives at Christmas and many clothing drives as well. She helped create innovative programs such as V Cops, veterans who volunteered for community patrols and other community activities.
