Assembling in Lowery Plaza at 40th Street/Queens Boulevard

March between Lowery and Bliss Plazas under the 7 train (40th to 46th Streets)

We will gather at Lowery Plaza and hear from a few speakers on LGBTQ+ equality and the attacks on our communities.  We will march from Lowery Plaza to Bliss Plaza (46th Street) where we will have a celebration, with performances, local craftspeople and community organizations tabling.  The march route between the two plazas, through the parking areas will have a pink/purple line painted.

With all the attacks on the transgender community across the nation, including murders, attacks and anti-transgender legislation, and the political and rhetorical assault on the LGBTQ+ community utilizing “grooming” language, it is time to stand up and say not in Sunnyside, not in Queens.  We are coming together to show support for the LGBTQ+ community and to proclaim that Sunnyside is welcoming to all people.  We will have political and governmental speeches at Lowery Plaza before the March then we will march to Bliss Plaza where we will have a celebration with music and performances.

We are asking local groups and businesses to consider becoming a sponsor of the event at the $500/$250 or $100 level and will list them on the website for the event (hosted on sunnysideshines.org) and on the flyers/social media for the event, and they will be thanked publicly during the program at both plazas.  The money will go to cover the permits, the paint and painting of the lavender line, the performers and MC and the chalk artwork to be done at Bliss Plaza.  Donations will go through a local non-profit, Sunnyside Shines.
