Look out, Sunnyside! A new local rewards card is launching this month offering deals and discounts at 30+ neighborhood businesses. Produced by Sunnyside Shines, the Shop Sunnyside card is a colorful plastic card that entitles cardholders to various discounts at Sunnyside’s local businesses.
Cardholders just need to present the Shop Sunnyside card at a participating business to receive the discount. The card offers a variety of deals – like $2 off cocktails until 8pm at the Gaslight Bar, $10% off all cash purchases (deliveries and events excluded) at Sunnyside Florist and a 20% discount on frames and lenses at Sunnysight Optik (restrictions apply). Looking to get a new tattoo? Sunnyside Tattoo offers cardholders 5% off tattoos over $200, and cardholders shopping at Taiyo Foods will receive a free green tea or Japanese snack with any purchase of $20 or more. Businesses are encouraged to change their deals regularly, and customers can stay up-to-date with the latest deals offered at shopsunnyside.com.
“We wanted to showcase the variety of businesses in the neighborhood,” said Sunnyside Shines executive director Rachel Thieme. “Sunnyside is more than just great restaurants – we have a full range of retailers and service businesses that everyone in the neighborhood should know about.”
Cards are free and can be obtained from the Sunnyside Shines office, events around the neighborhood, and most local real estate offices starting in mid-May. On May 14 at noon, Sunnyside Shines will hold a launch event in Bliss Plaza (at 46th Street and Queens Boulevard) to officially kick off the promotion and distribute cards and Shop Sunnyside bags. Attendees can partake in a photo booth, as well as contribute to an activity about why they love Sunnyside.
Local business owners have responded positively to the Shop Sunnyside campaign. “We have good prices and good quality services right here in Sunnyside,” said Martha Campos, owner of Blush & Glow Day Spa at 44-09 Queens Boulevard. “We have everything here. Why go out of the neighborhood? I think the Shop Sunnyside card will really help promote local business.”
“Shop Sunnyside is the best idea that Rachel from Sunnyside Shines has come up with this year. We are a local store wanting to give back and I’m hopeful this will bring even more people in,” said Phil Valenti, owner of Go Natural Health Food and Juice Bar, located at 45-03 Queens Boulevard.
Local residents or visitors may request a free card and browse the full list of discounts offered at shopsunnyside.com. The promotion is open to all businesses located within the Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District (BID). Any BID business may sign up for the promotion or change their deal online at shopsunnyside.com. Participating businesses’ deals will be featured regularly in Sunnyside Shines’ e-newsletter and on their social media accounts @SunnysideShines.
