Business owner You Feng He’s motto? “If you put in the work, you will get better at what you are trying to do.” That was his approach to taking over the Sunnyside institution that is Queens Boulevard Fish Market a year ago and started to learn the ropes of the being a fishmonger. Previous to this, he studied at LaGuardia Community College and eventually became an accountant with an office in 8th Ave in Brooklyn Flushing. With a long commute over from Woodside, where he resides, he wanted to open a business nearby and learn a new trade.
Eventually, he settled on the fish market and now he knows the ins-and-out of the business, but continues to learn everyday about the industry. With the help of his staff, who has been operating the market since the early 2000s, the business offers a solid selection of fresh fish chosen from the Fulton Fish Market in the Bronx and delivered to the Sunnyside storefront daily. It’s no wonder that some of You’s customers come from out-of-state to purchase fish from him. As Yelp.com reviewer Othelia J. of Jackson Heights writes:
“This is a very good, reliable and consistent local fish market. Good selection, nice folks, good service. I’m glad that they are here.”
The fish market also serves up delicious and hearty fish soup in limited quantities, often complemented with a slice of lime, making it a great choice for lunch or a snack.
Queens Boulevard Fish Market is located at 44-15 Queens Blvd, Sunnyside, Queens, New York. Hours of operation is 9am to 7pm daily from Monday-Saturday.
