Community members work in teams to provide input on plaza design
Despite the rainy weather, more than 50 people attended a public workshop on Wednesday, April 30 to learn more about the proposed Lowery and Bliss plazas on Queens Boulevard under the elevated 7 train. The workshop was run by the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) and featured a presentation about the plaza program and a breakout session to gather community design input. Community members worked in small groups to mark up maps of the two sites, located at 40th Street and 46th Street, and suggest improvements and programming. Ideas mentioned by several groups included improved lighting, moveable tables and chairs, wi-fi, art installations, added color and limited permanent fixtures in order to provide flexibility for use of the space. DOT will take these suggestions and incorporate them into a proposal for the sites, which will be shared at the Community Board's transportation committee in May and at the full Community Board meeting in June.
