Sunnyside Fire Relief For Small Businesses

This morning, a four alarm fire tore through a block at 44th street and Queens Boulevard. At this time we know that several businesses have been damaged or disrupted and will continue to update this page as developments become clear.

Just as we did following the devastating fire in Sunnyside in 2018, we are jumping into action to raise relief funds for workers displaced but this fire. We appreciate your support as our businesses struggle with this new loss after the last grinding 18 months of hardship for our entire community.

At the moment, we are in contact with all of the affected businesses and are coordinating with the New York City Department of Small Business Services on emergency response and business recovery. We have also activated the Sunnyside Shines Business Community Disaster Program to support the displaced employees of this fire and are raising funds through a Go Fund Me campaign. The Business Community Disaster Program was originally developed in the wake of the December 2018 fire that claimed 6 of our area businesses in order to organize community action around supporting over 100 employees who were displaced at the height of the holiday season.

Donors who wish to contribute to the Go Fund Me may make a donation at: gofund.me/3014ee7d

Donors who wish to contribute outside of the Go Fund Me may make a donation directly through Sunnyside Shines; please message us at info@sunnysideshines.org for more information if you are interested in this option. Additional contributors to date are all listed on the Sunnyside Shines website at www.sunnysideshines.org/news/sunnysidefirerelief

Your donation is tax deductible, and all funds will be used in their entirety to provide relief to employees of the businesses affected by the fire.

If you are an employee who was displaced by this fire, please email us with your name and the business where you are employed at info@sunnysideshines.org and we will be in touch with you as assistance becomes available to those affected.
