Tika Gyanwali beams as she tells us about her recently opened personal care salon HIRA Thread & Lash in Sunnyside, Queens. Inside, the salon is inviting with cream colored walls, bright lighting, and posters of of Nepal, her home country, decorates the glass windows with images of the elusive Sagarmatha, otherwise known as Mount Everest.
We sat down with Tika and spoke to her about the menu of extensive beauty services, ranging from eyebrow tinting to waxing to deep facials that clears out the pores. Tika talks about her extensive experience in the beauty industry in New York City, specializing in eyelashes, threading, and more. Working towards becoming a business owner for years and Tika glad to open a storefront in Sunnyside, where she has lived since moving to NYC. She loves the neighborhood and the people, but also it’s close proximity to Jackson Heights, where a large Nepalese population is.
As a mother of two children, it also allows her to be close to home. “After opening HIRA and becoming a business owner, I have more time to spend with my children, more flexibility with time,” Tika explains. “My husband is very supportive with the business as well.”
